The mid 1990's Fast Food chains were trying many different ideas to get new and old customers to come through their doors. In 1993 one idea by Burger King was to turn fast food into a more "higher class" feeling, and how would they do this ? Simply by offering table service !!!
When you went into your local Burger King during the hours of 4-9 you would be able to order one of their new "Basket Meals" : a Whopper Dinner Basket, Steak Sandwich Dinner Basket, Chicken Dinner Basket, Shrimp Dinner Basket, Flame-broiled Meatloaf Sandwich and Fried clams, a regional fare for the New England market.
The process was simple, you order your meal at the counter, once you place your order you would get FREE popcorn to enjoy along with a number. Then you get your drink and sit down and eat your salty free popcorn. A Burger King employee would look for your number and bring the tray of yummy food to you.. Sadly this idea never lasted that long and was done by the end of the year..
