Do you remember this cartoon from 1984? I am sure we all remember one particular scene from it that may still haunt some readers in their dreams at night, but we will talk about that later...
Turbo Teen is about a teenager named Brett Matthews who swerves off a road during a thunderstorm and crashes into a secret government laboratory. There, he and his red sports car are accidentally exposed to a molecular beam invented by a scientist named Dr. Chase for a government agent named Cardwell. As a result, Brett and his car become fused together. Brett gains the ability to morph into the car when exposed to extreme heat and revert into his human form when exposed to extreme cold.
This is the scene that gave many viewers nightmares
This trasformati scene is still in the minds of many, first we see his hands turn into tires, then his legs turn into a back axel, he then lays down and his mouth stretches wide to form the grill of the car (we like to think the slang word grill, meaning mouth came from watching this cartoon).
Turbo Teen as a car
With this new superhero power, Brett and his girlfriend, Pattie (a freelance reporter) and his best friend, Alex (a mechanic who calls Brett "TT"), and Brett's dog Rusty go on crime-fighting adventures together and solve other mysteries.
Like most cartoons of the time this was based off another show , can you get what??? Think about it. What other show had a car that looked like this, the same kind of music and the car would talk?? Nope, not Street Hawk that was a motorcycle, Knight Rider!
Turbo Teen only lasted one season, 13 episodes and debuted September 15,1984.
This is still a fun cartoon to watch, the action is great the music is filled with really good keyboard sounds, if you can find it give it a watch.
Here is a clip from an Episode. Enjoy!!
